Window tint brands in Dubai: what the numbers mean and how films differ

Short answer: The shade (VLT) tells you how dark a film is, not how cool it keeps the car. For heat, compare TSER (total solar energy rejected) first, then IR rejection. The film's technology (carbon, nano ceramic, sputtered metal, multilayer optical or graphene) decides most of it, so a light film can out-cool a dark one. Why brands cost different amounts

You pay for the technology first: carbon films cost the least, then nano ceramic, then sputtered, multilayer and graphene films.
At the same technology, a known name (3M, HEXIS, STEK) costs more than a lesser-known one.
Shade never changes the price at the garages that list shades.

How to compare

VLT: how dark

VLT is the share of visible light the film lets through. 70% is light, 50% medium, 30% dark, 5% very dark and 0% blackout. A lower number means more privacy, not necessarily less heat.

TSER and IRR: how cool

IRR is how much infrared the film blocks; TSER is how much of the sun's total energy it blocks. Both are listed for some films, and they can be far apart: a film listed with 97% heat rejection may have a TSER of 70%. TSER is the fairer comparison.

Film technology

Carbon films are matte and colour-stable. Nano ceramic films reject heat without metal, so phone and GPS signals pass freely. Sputtered films (magnetron sputtering, titanium) lay down thin metal layers in a vacuum for strong heat rejection, sometimes with a hint of colour. Multilayer optical films stack many thin layers to reflect heat while staying clear. Graphene films are the newest type on Garagat.

Windshield

Windshield rules are stricter. Some films are made to cut heat and UV without visibly darkening the glass; garages list them as a separate front-glass option.

Warranty

Tint warranties on Garagat run from 2 years to lifetime, and the same film can carry a shorter warranty on the windshield than on side windows.
