Why brands cost different amounts
- Premium names (XPEL, HEXIS, STEK DYNOshield) cost more for longer, brand-registered warranties and stronger top coats.
- Mid lines (STEK FORCEshield, CARPRO, Ultraguard Phoenix and ProShield) give similar protection with a shorter warranty or a thinner film.
- House brands and lesser-known TPU films cost the least. Many still carry long warranties; check who stands behind them.
- The installer matters too: the same film costs different amounts at different garages because of labour, cutting method and aftercare.

How to compare
Thickness: mil and microns
Film thickness is quoted in mil or microns (1 mil is 25.4 microns, so 8.5 mil is about 216 microns). A thicker film absorbs more of a stone hit, but the top coat and the quality of the installation matter just as much.
Base film, top coat and adhesive
The base is TPU, a flexible polyurethane. Some listings name its maker (Lubrizol, BASF or Wanhua) and the adhesive (Ashland). The top coat gives the film its self-healing, water-repelling surface and resists yellowing.
Finish
Clear gloss keeps the factory look. Matte or satin turns gloss paint flat. Black, colour, chrome and carbon-texture films change the look while still protecting the paint underneath.
Warranty
Warranties listed on Garagat run from 3 years to lifetime. Ask what it covers (yellowing, cracking, peeling, bubbling), whether you must register it with the brand, and whether it transfers when you sell the car.
Cut: pre-cut or manual
Some garages offer both. Pre-cut (laser or plotter-cut) film comes from templates for your model, so no blade touches the paint. Manual cutting on the car lets the installer wrap more edges. Ask which one your quote uses.
